What are the rules concerning Overnight Parking on Borough Streets?

The Overnight Parking Ordinance prohibits vehicles from parking between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on ALL STREETS.  The only exception are streets which are posted with signage stating "Overnight Parking Permitted for Passenger Vehicles Only".  Streets in which overnight parking is allowed are listed below (see FAQ #8).  Permission will only be granted as an occasional circumstance, not for extended periods of time.  There will be no permission granted when a snowstorm is expected or is in progress.

What is an abandoned vehicle?

A vehicle is considered abandoned if it has been the same public location for at least three consecutive days.  Most often it will be damaged or missing critical components, such as the engine, wheels, tires or license plates. NJ Title 39:4-56.5 This would include leaving your vehicle in one of the designated permitted parking areas within the Borough of Bogota.

You may be able identify a vehicle as abandoned if:

  • It has been in the same location for at least three consecutive days

  • Is missing the engine, wheels, tires or any other part of the vehicle that make it inoperable

  • Has a broken window or windshield that limits visibility

  • Has one or more flat tires

  • Does not have valid license plates

  • Is not registered

  • Note: This doesn’t include any vehicle kept within a building when it is not in use

Do I have to register my burglar/fire alarm?

YES, Local Ordinance 941 requires that all alarms (burglar/fire) that will initiate a response from an emergency service (police/fire/ambulance) must be registered with the Bogota Police Department. This registration is for a period of one year, renewable every January. The current permit fee is $10.00. Permit application can be obtained from the Records Bureau during normal business hours. Failure to register your alarm may result in summonses being issued. In addition, a summons may be issued for each unsubstantiated alarm responded starting with the fifth response. Fines range from $25 to $100 per summons plus cost of court.

Does Bogota supply resident identification cards?

NO, the Borough of Bogota does not issue resident identification cards, however, if you need a photo ID for any purpose, you can go to the Bergen County Clerk's Office in the new County Administration Building in Hackensack. Bergen County issues resident photo identification cards. There is a fee involved and you must bring proof of  residency.
